A Post Without a Picture Isn’t a Fun Post – Short Text Update

December 3, 2009

in Journal

December 3rd- We’ve already entered the month of December, and it’s been two weeks since I last posted. I really need to figure out a more consistent habit of blogging, because a dead blog isn’t a fun blog. I actually still have some pictures from Hong Kong that I want to post, but I just haven’t had the time to get around to editing them.

//Another aside: I’ve been wanting to section off part of this blog, where I can make pure-text posts, be they long or short, without having the subconscious feeling that I’m obligated to add a picture to each post. A pseudo Twitter wall, if you may. But, again, I have yet to find the time to mess around with my layout to reorganize this blog to do so. This will be the first of those posts, I guess- and reorganize everything once I get my blog layout figured out.

The actual update:

So why has it been so long since my last update? Well, this past week I was trying to figure out how to write a competitor analysis report on  MeshTop, the product that we’re developing in Beijing to integrate Social Networks into Outlook as a side-bar plugin. For those of you who don’t know, I studied Industrial Engineering at the University of Illinois- I haven’t had any formal marketing training, so everything has been a learning process.

I did try to look for some templates, but I ended up writing the report in a way I thought would make the most logical sense:

  • Define the categories/definitions of what I’m comparing
  • Define our product
  • Define the competitors
  • Discuss the differences
  • Identify the areas of weakness and strengths
  • Discuss the future improvements and areas of opportunity

Hopefully I didn’t miss out anything terribly important, heh. Anyhow, I think this shall conclude this first text update.

Things that are going on/happened:

  • My internship ends at the end of December – I need a full-time job!
  • My Canon 1D Mark IIN and 70-200mm f/2.8L IS was back-focusing, so I sent all my gear in to get calibrated. I’ll take pictures of the Canon center in Beijing when I pick up my gear
  • I had three Thanksgiving dinners this year. Tryptophan overdose.
  • Fei and Kyeon visited me while they were in Beijing- it was awesome to see familiar faces from CFC!
  • Two more friends from the States are talking about coming to Beijing for work- we’ll see how things develop
