I managed to see part of a documentary on TV here in Hong Kong, called, “Flow: For Love of Water”, and the case it presents is alarming. To give a short blurb of the documentary, from flowthefilm.com/about

An award-winning documentary investigation into what experts label the most important political and environmental issue of the 21st Century – The World Water Crisis.

Salina (the film’s director) builds a case against the growing privatization of the world’s dwindling fresh water supply with an unflinching focus on politics, pollution, human rights, and the emergence of a domineering world water cartel.
Interviews with scientists and activists intelligently reveal the rapidly building crisis, at both the global and human scale, and the film introduces many of the governmental and corporate culprits behind the water grab, while begging the question “CAN ANYONE REALLY OWN WATER?”

Beyond identifying the problem, FLOW also gives viewers a look at the people and institutions providing practical solutions to the water crisis and those developing new technologies, which are fast becoming blueprints for a successful global and economic turnaround.

On December 10th, 2008 FLOW was invited to screen at the United Nations as part of the 60th Anniversary of the Declaration of Human Rights.

I managed to find the full video on YouTube, and I really encourage you to watch it and to share it with your friends; I really think it’s worth the watch.

The video aims to raise awareness to the cause of the Right To Water as a fundamental human right, and for the addition of an article 31 to be added to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, as a step toward the goal of water for all:

Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Article 31

Everyone has the right to clean and accessible water, adequate for the health and well-being of the individual and family, and no one shall be deprived of such access or quality of water due to individual economic circumstance.

The 30 articles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights were ratified by all the nations of the world to guarantee human rights across many human endeavors, from Life to Liberty to Freedom of Thought. Over a billion people across the planet currently lack access to clean and potable water, and millions die each year as a result. There needs to be action taken to guarantee a Right to Water.

Please take some time to consider, and to take action: http://www.freeflo.org/article31
